Mazda Minagi soon to hit U.S. shores as the Mazda CX-5
Rumors are everywhere that the Mazda Minagi, unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show, will actually be coming to the U.S. next year as the new Mazda CX-5. What’s so special about it? Plenty, beginning with Mazda’s SKYACTIV technology, a combustion-chamber ratio of 13-to-1 - what the muscle cars of the 60’s and 70’s used to produce exceptional power. The higher engine compression makes for higher power and gas mileage, but until now it required costly premium gas. Mazda’s SKYACTIV has eliminated the wasteful slippage of a traditional torque-converter automatic, as it includes a lock-up feature for all the gears, not just the top gear. The 2-liter, 135-horsepower engine boasts 43 mpg on the highway… but remember, all is still speculation as of now, as Mazda is reluctant to release too much about the coming revelation in its lineup.
“SKYACTIV is a suite of technology that offers a fuel-efficient engine and transmission, aerodynamics meant to reduce drag, and even tires that offer less resistance in an effort to save gas,” said Jeremy Barnes, Mazda’s director of communications and national events. Barnes said the SKYACTIV effort is “all part of the way we will improve our global fuel economy by 30 percent by 2015, as compared to 2009-2010 models.” In all that efficiency, nothing was spared in design. The CX-5 still looks like a sportscar, with an angled front that appears to be in motion even while idle, but with the added hatchback that makes it a competitive crossover, especially when faced with the Nissan Juke at 32 mpg hwy, the Mini Countryman at 35, and the Outlander Sport at 31 mpg hwy. Eight Years of Service Excellence at Rick Case Mazda

Mr. Kolb,
I purchased my Mazda Millenia from Rick Case Mazda eight years ago and have had it serviced there ever since. While I have always been satisfied with the service I’ve received, I have never felt compelled to write a letter complimenting any of the people I’ve dealt with until now.
On May 18, 2010, I brought my car in because the Check Engine light was on, and I met Brian Consul. While my vehicle was being tested and diagnosed, he kept me informed of the progress and the findings. My car is ten years old, and things are starting to wear out, but I wasn’t expecting the amount of work that needed to be done. Brian was very patient, answering all my questions, and sympathizing with me about the mounting costs. While it didn’t change the final price of the repairs, his consideration and very approachable personality made it quite a bit less painful, and I felt like I was being well taken care of. To me, he epitomizes the way a service manager should relate to his customers.
I have also had the extreme pleasure of dealing with Willie Northover. The first time I met Willie was on March 5, 2010, when I brought my car in for service at 150,000 miles. He noticed several things of concern and showed me what needed to be done over the next few months. I know nothing about how my car works, but he explained why the items were of concern and what would happen with my car if they weren’t fixed in the near future. He answered all of my questions without any impatience or condescension, and I felt like we were working together to keep my car in good working order. And because I wouldn’t have been able to keep it all straight, he wrote down for me the order of priority for each item that needed addressing, along with the estimated price, so I could spread out the costs.
On this last visit, he obviously was very thorough in checking everything that might be causing a problem in my aging car, because he found a few more things than were indicated by the Check Engine light. When I returned the following day to pick up my care, he spoke with me again and gave me some advise about keeping it performing well. As I drove my car home, I noticed how well it was running and once again appreciated the service that was done. I really love my car and hope to continue driving it for many more years. As long as Willie is working on it, I’m certain that I will.
Perception is everything, and I perceived that I and my car were well taken care of by both Brian and Willie. I can’t tell you how grateful I am that they are both working at Rick Case Mazda, and I hope to be dealing with them every time I need to have my car serviced.
